Do I really have to write a research proposal? Well, it is really an important file to start your dissertation with. The research proposal serves as a plan that you need to get approved by your instructor or adviser. Technically speaking, you cannot simply dive into dissertation writing without having an approved proposal so it is really crucial. Now, I know what your next question will be since you have realized that a proposal is necessary. You will ask, what is the correct research proposal format? Let us take a look at the basic structure of a proposal.

The research proposal format can be constructed in many ways. But there are certain parts that are necessary to be included in order to come up with an effective research paper.

  1. Dissertation title; even if you are still not sure what title to use for your project, it is important that you at least have a direction of writing. Emphasize what the research is all about.
  2. Thesis statement; this is the main goal of conducting a research. A thesis statement may be a problem that you wish to resolve. Construct it based on an assumption or assertion.
  3. Literature review; it is a summary of another document. Simply talk about what material you are going to use and why.
  4. Methods; one of the most important parts of a research proposal format is the methodology. Here, you need to explain how you are going to gather data and what analysis methods you are going to use.
  5. Assumptions; only after researching can you come up with the results. However, you can also create hypotheses and assumptions on your proposal format.
